Francois Marie Arouet also known as Voltaire was born in France on November 21, 1694. He was a French writer and satirist(Kirjasto). Voltaire was remembered as a crusader against tyranny and bigotry(ibid). Volatire went to "Lous le Grand", but dropped out at the age of 17(lucidcafe). Voltaire said "All I learned was Latin and the stupidities."(ibid) Voltaire went to prison for writing a scathing satire of the French government(ibid). In prison, Voltaire wrote "Oedip". In prison he also got his pen name "Voltaire"(ibid). Rousseau was another french writer, who didn't get along with Voltaire. They always wanted to do better than one another(Kirjasto). Voltaire quoted "One feels like crawling on all fours after reading you work."(ibid)
In 1734, Voltaire was banished from France for criticizing the French government again(lucidcafe). When Voltaire left, he met Emilie Du Chatelet and moved to Chateau de Cirey. In 1746 he was voted into the Academie Francaise. In 1749 after Emilie Died, he moved to Potsdam, then he returned to France(ibid).
When Voltaire returned to France at age 83, he died from the stress of travleing. Because of the criticizm of the church, he was denied burial on church ground(ibid). Voltaire was burried at an abbey in Champagne, but then moved to a resting place in the Pantheon in Paris. Then in 1814 a group of Ultras stole his remains and dumped him in a garbage heap(lucidcafe). When they cheched his sarcophagus, all they found was his heart and brain(ibid).
