Richard S. Palais

 

 

          Richard Palais has spent 37 years teaching at Brandies University. In 1968 he awarded Karen Uhlenbeck her PhD at Brandies. In 1997 he retired to have more time to work on his love of mathematical Visualisations and specifically to develope his Macintosh Program 3D-Filmstrip called 3D-Xplormath. In 2004 Richard wife Chuu-lian Terng resigned from Northeastern University to get a position at the Mathematics Department at the University of Callifornia in Irvine, where they recently have moved. Richard also has recentl accepted a spot as Adjunct Proffessor of Mathematics at UCI and will now be teaching one or two cources per year. He says that he really never retired.
