Augustus De Morgan
1806-1871
Agustus De Morgan was born in India, but when he was just 7 months old he moved to England. He was born blind in his right eye. Because of his disability he had a hard childhood. When he was 16 he went to Trinity college, in Cambridge. The famous mathematician Isaac Newton also when to Trinity college.
At Trinity college he decided that during his life he wanted to study logic and algebra, as well as the mathematician Karen Uhlenbeck. She also majored in the study of algebra. His most important work was with formal logic. The famous mathematician Bertrand Russell, who was born shortly after Agustus De Morgan's death studied in the same field as Agustus.DeMorgan also made what he called "DeMorgan's laws", which were all algebra equations. They were written in the if-then format, which if this happens then this will happen. The saying "Mind your Ps and Qs" comes from DeMorgan's laws.
Augustus lived during the Victorian age. During this time most people who were poor became middle class and the people who were already middle class became rich. Queen Victoria changed many things.
